LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A patrol car video shows the entire assault of a woman who later died while in Los Angeles police custody in 2012.

Video shows Officer Mary O'Callaghan grabbing Alesia Thomas in the throat while trying to get her into a patrol car back on July 22, 2012.

Thomas can be heard repeating, "I can't," as officers pull her in.

After the officers get Thomas into the car, O'Callaghan goes out for a smoke break. That's when she realizes Thomas lost consciousness.

O'Callaghan allegedly thought she was "faking her distress," prosecutors said in court. Thomas never recovered.

O'Callaghan was convicted of assault last week. The 19-year LAPD veteran was charged with using unreasonable force in the arrest and faces up to three years in jail.

No dispute was made that Thomas had been resisting officers.
