Authorities led a man off an Alaska Airlines flight in handcuffs after he attempted to open the aircraft's door mid-flight on Monday, reports KIRO 7, an ABC affiliate in Seattle.

Video shows the man exiting Alaska Airlines Flight 7 after it landed safely in Minneapolis following the disturbance.

The Seattle-bound flight took off from JFK International Airport in New York, but was diverted to Minneapolis so the man could be removed and taken into custody.

Passenger Shoshana Godwin, who was sitting next to the man, told KIRO 7 he had been acting oddly even as the plane was boarded.

"He kept stopping to go into his bag and then I watched him take a pill out of his bag," she said.

The man, who she said appeared to be in his 20s, settled down and seemed to be falling asleep until the flight attendant stopped by to ask for their drink orders.

"He said he needed to cancel his flight and get off the plane and just was kind of speaking a little gibberish," she told KIRO 7.

Godwin said that a flight attendant took control of the situation, but that the man appeared to lose control of himself.

"She handled it so well," she said. "She was very calm, and just said, you know, 'Sir, come stay with me in the back, we can talk through this.'"

Another passenger, Melinda Iverson, watched the scene unfold as crew members responded.

"The air marshals were there quick," she told KIRO 7. "The flight attendants were sort of surrounding him and I felt more sorry for him than anything."

The flight crew alerted air controllers in Minnesota, saying they were "dropping off one of our passengers early," and wanted to have somebody to "greet this customer, [who was] having a difficult time working and playing well with others."

"I think someone may have been a little bit stressed out about flying and took too much medication, honestly," Godwin said.

The flight eventually arrived at Seattle at around 1 p.m. local time, KIRO 7 reported.

Alaska Airlines said it would be physically impossible for a person to open an aircraft door while the aircraft is pressurized and in flight.

Police in Minneapolis questioned the man and determined he presented a danger to himself, KIRO 7 reported, and later took him to the hospital.

Police did not immediately say if the man will face any charges.
