Runyon Canyon Park to reopen after 4-month closure

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Runyon Canyon Park will reopen on Tuesday after a four-month closure for a water system repair project.

"After much needed public safety and infrastructure upgrades, the City of Los Angeles is thrilled to reopen one of the City's most highly used and beloved parks," Councilman David Ryu said in a statement.

The Runyon Canyon Water System Improvement Project shut down the popular park in April to replace a 1-mile 6-inch pipe that runs through the park. The replacement was meant to improve the area's fire protection system, reduce the risk of pipe breaks and improve local water quality, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Hikers had to find a different place to workout while Runyon was closed, but the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks confirmed that the park will reopen on Aug. 2.
