Koreatown hit-run leaves woman with brain injury
Authorities continue to search for a hit-and-run driver who struck a woman in Koreatown last week, leaving her with a brain injury and bone fractures.

KOREATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The search continues for the driver in a hit-and-run crash in Koreatown that left a female motorist with a brain injury and bone fractures.

On Saturday, a driver in a rented 2014 Dodge Journey SUV drove westbound on 8th Street and ran a red light at Harvard Boulevard. The SUV crashed into Sun Lee's BMW, police said.

Photos from witnesses captured the driver of the SUV fleeing on foot from the scene of the accident.

Lee's son, Dain Ban, says his mother suffered a brain injury and fractures in her leg and rib area.

"When she wake up she asking me the same question, 'Where am I?' Again and again. I need to explain when she wakes up every time," Ban said.

Ban says his mother was headed to his father's store in Koreatown to drop off his lunch. From there, she would drive to his jewelry store in Northridge to help him out.

Investigators say the rental company has given detectives information on the person who rented the SUV. A detective working on the case said the person who rented the vehicle used fraudulent identification. The Department of Motor Vehicles is expected to provide police with more information.

Meanwhile, Lee has shown some signs of recovery, her sons says.

"When I ask her something, she can answer it. She remembers everything before the accident," Ban said.

Ban hopes his mother will be able to return home in about week, but it may be months before she's able to walk on her own again.

If you have any information about this case, you're urged to contact LAPD.
