Seal Beach police are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect who beat a man over the head with a tire iron in an unprovoked attack at a gas station Sunday night.

SEAL BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A 26-year-old man was beaten over the head with a tire iron at a Seal Beach gas station in an unprovoked attack Sunday night.

The victim was filling up his car at a Mobil gas station in the 12000 block of Seal Beach Boulevard at about 10 p.m. when the suspect struck him from behind.

The victim suffered a large laceration to his head and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The motive remains unknown, and Seal Beach police believe the incident may have just been a random act of violence.

The suspect was last seen running southbound on Seal Beach Boulevard. He was described as a clean-shaven Hispanic man with a thin build and dark complexion, standing around 5 feet 11 inches. He was last seen wearing black tennis shoes with white knee-high socks, long khaki shorts, a black tank top and a black and white baseball cap.
