Earthquake with magnitude 3.4 strikes near Carson

CARSON, Calif. (KABC) -- A magnitude-3.4 earthquake struck near the Carson area Thursday morning.

According to the U.S. Geological survey, the quake struck around 7 a.m. PT approximately two miles east-northeast of Carson, four miles south-southwest of Compton and four miles southeast of Gardena. USGS initially registered the temblor as magnitude-3.6 but downgraded it about an hour later.

Viewers who felt the shaking called the Eyewitness News room from Carson, Compton, Lakewood, Brentwood, South Los Angeles, the Crenshaw District, downtown Los Angeles, Hawthorne, Whittier, Norwalk, Long Beach, South Gate and Boyle Heights. There were no immediate reports of damage.

The Los Angeles Fire Department tweeted that it was in earthquake mode and is surveying 470 square-miles for quake-related damage. Following the survey, the LAFD said it found no damage and was no longer on earthquake mode.

Los Angeles Metro advised commuters of minor delays on all Metro Rail lines due to the quake. After a system-wide inspection, Metro announced it was resuming normal services.
