WILMINGTON, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man was run over then dragged beneath a U-Haul truck after being shot in a meeting at a Wilmington business on Saturday morning. Another man was also shot and injured during the encounter.

A victim and a suspect had a pre-arranged meeting in the 1600 block of W. Mauretania Street, but the pair got into a shootout when three other people appeared and the suspect was shot in the torso, Los Angeles police said.

Authorities responded to the shots fired shortly after 8 a.m. Police initially reported the incident as a possible robbery.

Investigators don't know what prompted someone to open fire. As the suspects, including the man shot in the torso, fled west on Pacific Coast Highway in a U-Haul truck, a witness called 911.

"The citizen alerted us and this person was dragged for several miles on PCH," LAPD Capt. David Kowalski said.

The truck had run over one of the suspects and finally stopped at Figueroa Street. It was unclear if the driver knew he was dragging the body.

The wounded driver was taken into custody and arrested. No officers were involved in the shooting.

Police continue to search for two other suspects.
